Kisses. An early study of a woman's profile, circa 1940. Graphite and colored pencil on paper, with faint profile sketches to either side. Sheet measures 280x209 mm; 11x8 1/4-inches. Signed "Sinjun" (his early pseudonym) and with a lipstick kiss seal (bleeding through from verso). Vertical and horizontal fold marks and with Gorey's fingerprints in white areas. Tipped to matte and framed. Provenance: Edward Gorey to Chicago friend, online auction, to present owner.

Created by Gorey while a high school student at the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago, preceding his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago and Harvard.
