Color monotype, color pastels and stencil with paper and fabric collage on thick cream wove paper, 1983. 711x940 mm; 28x37 inches. Signed and dated in pink pastel, lower right and titled in pencil, lower right edge.

Slow Time is part of a significant body of 1980s work by Emma Amos depicting African-American women in bathing suits or swimming. Printed at the studio of Kathy Caraccio, Amos's monotypes use similar collage elements and mixed media as found in her paintings on fabric. Other works in this series of swimmers include the etchings Sand Tan, 1980 and To Sit, 1981 and the painting Arched Swimmer, 1987.
