      first edition of Galileo's dialogue on the Copernican and Ptolemaic systems, establishing the validity of heliocentricity. Bound with it is the third edition of his manual for the proportional compass he invented as a calculating instrument; the 1606 original edition, of which only 60 copies were privately printed, was his first published work.
