HELD, JR., JOHN. Group of 12 woodcuts. Most published in The New Yorker. On paper of varying thickness, laid loose in plain paper folder. Approximately 230x330 mm; 9x13 inches, image. Edgewear with occasional mild soiling or spotting, one duplicate. Caption to each, all but one Signed in pencil, lower margins. Np, [circa 1920s]

Titles include The Whale Hunters, The Rumrunner's Sister-in-Law, Nutmeg Factory Connecticut and The Sailor's Return, among others. Although best known for his illustrations and cartoons depicting the Roaring Twenties, Held was an accomplished artist. His early medium of choice was the woodblock and linoleum cuts.
