Lithograph on cream wove paper, 1973. 559x381 mm; 22x15 inches, full margins. Signed, titled, dated "7/26/73" and numbered 37/100 in pencil, lower margin. Dedicated "From Jane and Howard to Maya and Paul 1/24/74" in ink, lower margin.
Pan-Africanist Kofi Bailey gained inspiration and motivation to create art from his social and civic involvement within the African diaspora. Bailey had close ties to political figures who fought racism and colonialism such as Kwame Nkrumah and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He lived in Ghana during the 1960s, which is where many of his artistic and cultural sensitivities were cultivated.
