"A Girl Possessed of a Terrifying Power." Original cover illustration for the first mass-market paperback edition of "Carrie" by Stephen King (New York: Signet/New American Library, 1975). Watercolor and acrylic on paper, collaged over board. 590x482 mm; 23 1/4x19 inches. Signed twice, once in collage and again in painted background, both lower left. Taped along verso to matte.

Carrie was King's fourth novel but his first to be published, and the one that launched his commercial success. The first edition sold thirteen thousand copies when it was released in 1974, but it was the Signet/New American Library paperback edition with this iconic cover, launched a year later, that sold over a million copies.Price Realized (with Buyer's Premium) $4,940
