KIMBEI, KUSAKABE (1841-1934)
Album containing 50 delicately hand-colored photographs of Japan, including lovely landscapes, detailed urban scenes, temples, geishas, merchants, and even a wedding ceremony. Hand-colored mounted albumen prints, each approxmately 8x10 1/4 inches (20.3x26 cm.), and the reverse, nearly all with an inventory number in the negative and all but one with a typed caption label, in English, on the mounts below the image area. Oblong folio, rebound? in blue cloth with applied decorative elements, partially detached from the text block; with a faint Kimbei stamp, a Yokohama stamp, and the original owner's inscription and date, in ink, on the front free endpaper; all edges gilt. 1887
