He studied in San Francisco and Paris, eventually settling in New York and establishing with his brother a stage curtain painting business for which he is best known, the Lee Lash Theater Curtain Company. The stock market crash of 1929 and the decline of Vaudeville hurt the buisness and Lash ultimately ended up painting smaller canvases, mainly views of New York landscapes. and retiring with his wife to Los Angeles.
