Marchande de Fleurs, Paris.
Oil on masonite board, circa 1945-47. 190x242 mm; 7 1/2x9 1/2 inches. Signed and inscribed "Paris" in oil, lower right.
Provenance: acquired directly from the artist, private collection, Washington, DC; thence by descent to the current owner.
This bustling, charming Paris street scene is a lovely, early example of Loïs Mailou Jones painting, The density of the composition and the impastoed brush strokes indicate it was likely painted upon her return in 1945 or shortly following the end of the war.
