Troop (1917-2016) was only 23 when she sold this painting to the Saturday Evening Post for its June 15, 1940 cover, making her the youngest woman to achieve that coveted professional distinction. Troop was born in Philadelphia and educated at the Moore College of Art. She worked as an illustrator and portraitist well into her 90s.
