Loosely laid in is a broadside ad for another related (anti-slavery) book; some light soiling and a faint crease to the front wrapper, small abrasion to the rear cover. New York, 1864

      first edition. A controversial pamphlet that drew sharp replies for years to come. The greatest general fear of whites following the end of the Civil War was intermarriage. Croly [and the co-writers] suggested just the opposite, that the solution to racial strife might be miscegenation (a word made up from the Latin miscere (mix) and Genus (race.)
