Provenance: acquired directly from the artist by Simon Gouverneur, Washington, DC; the estate of the Simon Governeur; private collection, Washington DC (1990). Abstract symbolist artist Simon Gouverneur traded with his friend Sam Gilliam for this artwork in the early to mid 1980s. Gilliam also curated an exhibition of Simon Gouverneur's paintings in the mid 1980s at the Martin Luther King Library Gallery in Washington, DC.
