Color illustrated endpapers and 19 plates by Bortnyik. 8vo, green cloth with pictorial onlay; front free endpaper excised, mild and faint dampstaining to very upper outer corners of contents; original dust jacket, toned and unevenly stained, rear panel partly crumpled but present.       scarce in dust jacket. The charming children's book about Max and Marie who discover all sorts of wondrous things on a fantastical trip that begins with flying a kite. Bortnyik was a founding member of the Hungarian avant-garde movement, MA, with L. Moholy-Nagy and Ernö Barta. He studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar in the early 1920s and, using their design principles, began an important workshop for graphic arts in Budapest that became an important center for poster and advertising art.
