      WALLACE, DAVID FOSTER. The Broom of the System. 8vo, publisher's blue wrappers printed in black; small faint spots to a few early leaves. Fine copy of a Wallace rarity. [New York]: Viking/Penguin, (1987)

      Estimate $2,500 - 3,500

      very elusive unrevised proof with no other copies appearing at auction. Issued in July, preceding the Advance Reading Copy by about a month. Laid in is the publisher's promotional letter (folded), announcing that "This is really an advanced advanced galley [...] The special proofs will be around for August conference." Also the first novel to be published simultaneously in paper in Penguin's Contemporary American Fiction Series and in Viking hardcover. One of a scant few produced (the promo letter lists eight names on the recipient line).
