Second edition and the first octavo edition. "Pioneer English voyage to this coast, supplying the chief basis to British claims to Oregon"--Howes M469 ("aa"). "One of the early and fundamental books on the Northwest coast of America in general, and on Alaska in particular"--Lada-Mocarski 46 (on the first edition). Hill 1127; Sabin 47261. A few copies have been reported with a tenth map of the northwest coast, not present here, though this is not called for in Howes or Sabin. Provenance: PBA's Steinbrugge sale, 29 May 2008, lot 189.
