The "Constitution" was the sister ship of the "Independence," and like her sister was built by Bethlehem Steel at their Quincy, Mass yards. The twin-screw vessel was launched in September 1950 and began her maiden voyage on 21 June 1951. She was renovated and had a solarium and cabins added in 1959.
