Additional Details

A portrait of the Mohawk Iroquois chief Sa Ga Yean Qua Rash Tow or Peter Brant who made a diplomatic visit to London as one of the "Four Indian Kings" in 1710. He died shortly after returning to America. His grandson was the stepfather of the important Mohawk leader Joseph Brant (1743-1807). The source image for this mezzotint was a 1710 engraving "done from life" by John Faber of London. In this Dutch rendering, he is renamed Coning Brant, Dutch for "King Brant."
