Additional Details

The original owner was Laura West, teacher at the Cattaraugus Mission School. Pilling, Iroquois pages 76, 178; Sabin 79118; no others known at auction.
Bound into the end is a two-page printed poem in a different typeface, "Gainoh, P.M. / Uncertainty of Life," credited to Seneca chief Nathaniel T. Strong without pagination, imprint place or date. This is apparently Strong's original translation of a hymn, and may be an unrecorded mission imprint.
