(AMERICAN MUG SHOTS--CRIME "LEDGER")
An oversized ledger-like album titled "Security Dept.," with over 500 mug shots from the Oregon State Penitentiary. Each photographic diptych is mounted to plain sheets, usually 6 per page, sometimes recto/verso. The album is organized by alphabet tabs, and the subjects are arranged by their surname. Includes mostly men, but also some women with nicely curled hair; most of the crimes appear to be related to forgery or passing forged checks. Silver prints, each approximately 2 3/4x4 1/2 inches (7x11.4 cm.), each with a typed label below the image with the subject's name, their location, vocation, crime, sentence, and a physical description. Large folio, 17 1/2x14 3/4 inches (44.5x37.5 cm.), green cloth with leather corners and a stenciled white-lettered title; metal post binding. 1955-58
