Additional Details

Jacob Gerrish (1739-1817) of Newbury, MA had led a company of minutemen at Lexington and served as a captain in a Continental regiment in 1776. Here, as colonel of a Massachusetts militia regiment, he signs a muster roll listing the 74 members of a company under the command of Samuel Huse or Hughes, stationed on Winter Hill just north of Boston. Several of the privates are noted as sick or on furlough. The regiment was stationed here to guard Hessian prisoners who had been under the command of Burgoyne.
