Letter Signed, to Ebenezer Hancock, Deputy Paymaster General of the Army of the United States, requesting him to "Pay to Col John Glover eight hundred & eighty pounds three shillings, equal to two thousand nine hundred & thirty three dollars . . . it being for one month's pay of the Regiment of Foot in the service of the United Colonies . . ." Countersigned by Glover, acknowledging receipt of the money. Written on verso is Colonel Glover's itemized list of his regiment and their monthly wages, which is additionally Signed and dated by Glover: "Camp in Beverly, July 7, 1776." 1 page, tall 4to; folds, minor bleed-through. Additional Details

Ward (1727-1800) was commissioned as general and commander-in-chief of the Massachusetts troops in 1775 and resigned in 1776 when his rank was reduced to major-general upon Washington's being given supreme command.
