Additional Details

Most notable is John Lathrops "A Discourse Preached . . . being the Day Recommended by the Provincial Congress to be Observed in Thanksgiving." 39 pages. Uncut, unopened, with half-title. Lathrop, clearly in the patriot camp, discusses the "illustrious" Continental Congress on page 17, and notes on page 9 that "in no part of the world has the right of private judgement, in matters of religion, been more sacredly maintained than in America." Also included are two other sermons, each in modern wrappers, and lacking half-titles: Gad Hitchcock. A Sermon Preached before his Excellency Thomas Gage. Preached in celebration of the royal governor of Massachusetts. Peter Whitney. The Transgression of a Land Punished by a Multitude of Rulers. A pair of Patriot discourses, one of them arguing for the people's right to overthrow the King of England. Evans 13330, 13370, 13769.
