Joseph Goldsborough Bruff (1804-1889) was a career draftsman for the federal government, best known for his sketches of California during the Gold Rush period. This lot includes Bruff's signed hand-colored rendering for the Yorktown Victory Monument design competition, 24 x 17 1/2 inches, 1880 Bruff's inked rendering of the Great Seal of the United States, 1876 Bruff's signed ink design for a Certificate of Registry form, 1874 A small plat by Bruff of the Executive Square in Washington, DC, undated A small pencil sketch titled "A Conventional Diagram Plan of the Mining District on the Chestatee River, Georgia," undated 7 other original drawings by Bruff of architectural details 3 letters to Bruff from Peter Force, William Henry Aspinwall, and Samuel Yorke, 1845-83 Bruff's signed 5-page manuscript titled "Silver Coin of Darius I," 1879 3 printed Masonic certificates on vellum either designed or signed by Bruff.
