(ART.) Auntie Jane and her husband Moses (supplied title). A pair of hand-made 19th-century figures, dressed in black, approximately 9 inches high. The man, seated in a rocking chair, the woman standing. Both are made from twigs and other natural material, covered with cloth; in the woman's instance trimmed with lace. Faces made of some sort of dark resinous material; hair and beard made from raw cotton. Some wear to the cloth wrapped around the chair's rockers. Deep South, circa last quarter 19th century.

Additional Details

A wonderful representation of an old couple, the white-haired gentleman sitting in his rocking chair, while his wife stands at his side. Enhanced by attention to little details like her glasses, made from a piece of twisted wire, and his "cravat," the only touch of color to both pieces. From a private collection.
