Inner sleeve with an illustrated 4-page essay, "One Hundred and Fifty Years of Afro-American Art," by James Amos Porter.

8 plates, each dedicated to one artist, each including biographical text and two or three illustrations: Selma Burke, Elizabeth Catlett, Ernest Crichlow, Richard Hunt, Loïs Mailou Jones, Richard Mayhew, Charles White, and Hale Woodruff. Charles White was a consultant on the project.
