Wood carving of a young man, possibly meant to be a doll. 16-1/2 inches tall, with articulated arms, early but not original iron brads holding the latter in place; original black paint with glass bead eyes and red painted lips; one arm parted and re-attached at the elbow with a brad; some very slight rubbing, otherwise very good condition. should be seen United States, circa mid 19th century.

A well-carved, anatomically "correct" male figure, this young man was carved from one piece of wood, with the arms made of two pieces, joined at the elbows. The hands are especially well executed with the fingers open. Two small holes in the bottoms of the feet indicate that this piece once had a stand. This piece has elements of the West African Lobi people carving.
