A compelling album with 46 photographs from various sites in Asia, including China, Ceylon, Singapore, Bangkok, and Colombo, as well as street scenes, urban canals, coconut plantations, coffee plants, cocoa plants, domestic scenes, and portraits, each with hand-coloring, most in bright tones. Hand-colored albumen prints, each approximately 8 1/2x10 1/2 inches (21.6x26.7 cm.) as well as two oval images measuring 7 3/8x10 inches (18.7x25.4 cm.), and the reverse, almost 10 with a credit, and nearly 20 with captions, all in the negative. Oblong folio, black lacquer covers with elaborate colored ivory inlay depicting two roses and a bird, also with the word "China," and a gilt-highlighted motif depicting insects on the rear; leather backstrip; all edges gilt. 1880s
