A second rally held in Oakland's DeFremery Park, two weeks after the start of Newton's murder trial (see previous lot). It features an unusual stylized panther, reminiscent of a Chinese dragon, by artist Lisa Lyons. Speakers headlined by Eldridge Cleaver, Bobby Seale, and Stokely Carmichael are promised, as well as "Barbeque! Black Dancers! Musicians! Theater!" The next day, the San Francisco Examiner reported a crowd of about 1500. Carmichael had missed his plane; Seale finished the rally by declaring that "the sky is the limit" if Newton was not freed.
