Additional Details

The letter was sent by Carmichael two years after he moved to Africa. He writes to the host and producer of the television program Meet the Press: "I have just returned from the states, having spent five weeks there. I do not have at present any intention of returning soon, however if your open invitation still stands, if the opportunity arises I will let you know. . . . I never received the transcript or tapes from the last interview." Carmichael appeared on Meet the Press in 1966; we have been unable to identify any later appearances.
