Additional Details

Richard D. Evans (1874-1938) was an important attorney and activist. He graduated with a law degree from Howard University in 1912 and then became the first African-American attorney in Waco, TX. He became head of the Texas branch of the NAACP and handled many important civil rights cases for the organization. This card depicts Evans in the prime of his career, with text reading "Faithfully yours, R.D. Evans, Attorney-at-Law" and his contact information. Evans appears at this 109 1/2 Bridge Street address in the 1926 Waco directory (but not in 1919 or 1928).
