Additional Details

The 'Little Rock Nine' was a group of African American students who attempted to enroll in the all-white Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Their enrollment became the 'The Little Rock Crisis,' in which the students were initially prevented from entering the racially segregated school by Orville Faubus, the Governor of Arkansas. Faubus called in the Arkansas National Guard to back up the mob of segregationists blocking the students' way. The NAACP then appealed to President Eisenhower who called in Federal troops to avoid a riot. The items being offered were circulated locally during the crisis.
