Amadou Diallo was an unarmed immigrant from Guinea who was shot 19 times by plainclothes policemen in front of his Bronx home on 4 February 1999. These photographs document Diallo's Harlem funeral (illustrated) and the protests which followed in the Bronx, Wall Street, and the state capital in Albany. Among the attendees were Al Sharpton (shown being arrested at a Wall Street protest), the victim's father Saikou Diallo, Louis Farrakhan, Winnie Mandela, and more. The photographs were taken by Azim Thomas, a freelance photographer who documented the period; they have not been published. With a key prepared with the assistance of the photographer.
