Additional Details

a rare wanted poster for six escaped men issued by 'gunless' sheriff john tobin. John Wallace Tobin (1867-1927) was a true son of San Antonio. He worked his way up from the Texas Militia, Belknap Rifles to Alderman, then Fire Chief, County Treasurer and in 1900 began a 21-year tenure as sheriff of San Antonio. A definitely peaceful 'peace officer,' Tobin was known to not wear a gun.
