(CIVIL WAR.) HUNTER, DAVID. Two items: Autograph Letter Signed, "D. Hunter / Maj. Gen." * Autograph Endorsement Signed, "D. Hunter / Maj. Gen. Com." The letter, to an unknown recipient (lacking salutation), ordering that the boat West Point be returned to New York, and requesting that Colonel Thompkins be informed "that as the boat has not rendered one second's service, and is reported . . . unfit for service, she should not be paid one cent." 2 pages, 8vo, written on the first and third pages of a single folded sheet, ruled paper; docketing and minor soiling at folds of terminal page. The endorsement, written on the terminal blank of a letter to him from J.J. Elwell: "The rooms mentioned in the written letter will be finished off at once by Capt.
