(CIVIL WAR.) Three items: Ulysses S. Grant. Etched portrait Signed and Inscribed, as President * William Tecumseh Sherman. Photograph Signed, twice, and Inscribed * Philip Henry Sheridan. Photograph Signed, twice, and Inscribed. The first, "U.S. Grant / For H.P. Gray, Jr.," in the blank margin below a bust portrait of him. Approximately 6x4 inches; toning overall, some scattered foxing, top edge chipped. The second, "W.T. Sherman / General," on the cabinet card mount below a bust portrait of him, and on the verso: "To Henry Peters Gray Jr-- / at Tiffany's / With compliments of / W.T. Sherman / General." Approximately 6x4 inches; discoloration from matting. The third, "P.H. Sheridan / LieutGenl," a clipped Signature mounted to a cabinet card bust portrait of him, and on the verso: "For Mr. H.P. Gray / Compliments of / P.H. Sheridan / LieutGenl." Approximately 6x4 inches; discoloration from matting; date on verso in another hand. The three matted together in a single frame. sold as is. Additional Details

Henry Peters Gray, Jr. (1844-1897) was son of the painter of the same name, served in the Civil War under General Sheridan in engagements including the Battles of Winchester, Hilton Head, and the bombardment of Charleston. After the War, he was employed at Tiffany & Co. as correspondent for 26 years.
