"The rain is very heavy & having no cartridge boxes, am uneasy about my ammunition. Shall I go?" This telegram was sent about 10 weeks after the Union capture of New Orleans, and 3 weeks before the Battle of Baton Rouge. The docketing on verso reads in part "Rec'd Hd. Qrs" and "R July 16" with the latter "R" closely resembling Ruggles' distinctive signature.
