Additional Details

These two pairs of military railroad tickets were issued for travel from Hanover, PA to Gettysburg, about 10 miles to the west, along the Gettysburg Railroad and the Hanover Branch Railroad. One pair of tickets is for four seats, and the other for 31 seats. A typed note explains that the tickets were used by Simon P. Wolverton, who was chosen as captain of Company F of the 36th Regiment of Pennsylvania Emergency Militia in June 1863. The regiment arrived in Gettysburg shortly after the battle to help with administering the hospitals and beginning the region's recovery process.
