Additional Details

This volume was compiled by William Watts Hart Davis (1820-1910) as the founding colonel of the 104th Pennsylvania Infantry, also known as the Doylestown Guards. He wrote regular reports on the regiment's training and service in the field for the Doylestown Democrat, here carefully compiled with manuscript date captions. The scrapbook also contains a letterpress recruitment broadside reading "Guards Accepted . . . Now Enrol at Once!", trimmed down to 11 1/2 x 8 3/4 inches, and laid down on the verso of the second leaf. Also included are his transcripts of the regiment's authorization letters from Secretary of War Simon Cameron, 1861-62; a copy-print photograph of Davis; and 6 pages of post-war clippings on reunions and other regimental news.
