Additional Details

A pair of autobiographical collages in which slicing plays prominent formal and self-referential roles. (It is a necessary component of the work of art and also essential to the pictures themselves). The first shows the maker, a mustachioed man in a loincloth, lying down alongside herbs and plants, with a pair of images showing a woman's hand on a table--attached and detached from her arm. Below the final print is an axe and knife. The companion leaf depicts the barechested artist in a butcher's apron, which is juxtaposed to a tableau of the woman's head, now detached from her body, and set on a table; a scimitar boldly sits below it. The final picture is of the sleeping man, now in a striped shirt, wearing the apron.<
