Letterpress broadside, 26 1/2 x 20 inches, with decorative borders, facsimile signatures, and an engraved portrait of Washington; backed with linen at an early date, remnants of faded hand-coloring, unevenly toned, a bit of faint white staining in upper area, outer border slightly cropped. Philadelphia: C.A. Elliott, printer, 1832

Additional Details

One of the lesser-known early facsimile printings of the Declaration, but certainly on a par with many of its contemporary printings for its attractive design. The main text is type-set, with the facsimile signatures re-arranged into three columns. In the outer border can be found schematic information on each of the states and territories, as well as a table of distances from Washington. Not in Bidwell's essay on the Declaration or Hart's Washington portraits, and only one copy found in OCLC.
