(ENTERTAINMENT--MUSIC.) Early poster of "Duke Ellington, Exclusive Victor Recording Artist." Poster, 24 x 18 1/4 inches, on board; moderate wear including moderate image loss at left corners and two mounting holes. No place, circa 1933-1934

Additional Details

Ellington rose to fame in the mid-1920s, recording tracks with several different record companies and leading the Cotton Club's house band from 1927 to 1931. He recorded with Victor Records only in 1933 and 1934, which narrows down the possible dates of this attractive large-format poster. As jazz still remained segregated in this period, the poster may have been produced for use in African-American record stores. The fold-out on verso suggests that it was intended for tabletop use.
