Additional Details

Robeson's groundbreaking portrayal of Othello opened at Broadway's Sam S. Shubert Theatre in October 1943, and continued for 280 performances.

If you like drama, the three signatures on this program have drama. Robeson and Hagen shared what is believed to be Broadway's first interracial kiss on stage in this production. Robeson's co-stars Uta Hagen and José Ferrer were married at the time--and Robeson's off-stage affair with Hagen played a role in their subsequent divorce.
