(EXPLORATION--ARGENTINA & PATAGONIA)
Album with approximately 45 photographs by an accomplished photographer, apparently a member of an exploration commission, ranging from remote pastoral locations in northern Argentina to breathtaking views at the southern tip of the continent.
The most dramatic scenes relate to what is now recognized as Patagonia, including topographic scenes in La Plata and Tierra del Fuego. Some figures are identified, including two with a Sr. Moreno, who is likely Francisco Moreno, the great Argentinian explorer, best known for his surveys of Patagonia. Also with winding street scenes of Bahia and Petropolis, Brazilian scenery, picturesque river views in Santos, Lagos San Martin and Argentino, native and official maritime vessels, government buildings, majestic views of Brazo Cacabuco and Rio Mayer, and figures riding on horseback or camping en route. Printing-out paper prints, the images measuring 3 1/4x4 1/2 to 4 1/4x6 inches (8.3x11.4 to 10.8x15.2 cm.), and the reverse, each with a caption, written on a label affixed to the mount below the prints. 4to, blue pictorial cloth. 1890s
