Rare album containing 60 photographs by Davey and the King Brothers of this lush and spectacular islands, comprising 25 beautiful prints with applied watercolor and 35 untinted prints, including scenes of the royal party and indigenous people, plantation life, and stunning landscapes. Hand-tinted salted paper (25), and albumen (35) prints, 7 1/4x9 1/4 inches (18.4x23.5 cm.), many with a handwritten caption below the image and Davey's signature and "H.I." on print recto, or the King Brothers credit and inventory number in the negative. Oblong folio, 1/2 gilt-lettered morocco, edgewear and rubbed; contents bright. 1890s

The album features a host of images in which Davey's artistic talents, as photographer and watercolorist, are much in evidence. The tinted photographs vividly amplify Hawaii's sea and landscape, with surfers at Diamond Head and other scenes of native peoples. Albumen prints by the King Brothers depict the islands's rich vegetation and natural splendors.
