Unique album of richly hand-colored French romantic lithographs. 76 finely hand-painted genre lithographs clipped and mounted to 60 ruled album leaves. Oblong 4to, 9½x13 inches, elaborately blind-tooled brown morocco, lightly worn; plates touched with gum arabic, some with gilt highlights; scattered soiling mainly to the mounts. Ink inscription to the moire flyleaf: "A ma charmante fiancée, un souvenir de mon cher pere. J. Caussade. 8 Avril 84" - possibly a reference to Charles Caussade, and a potential link to an identity of the accomplished colorist of the present suite. France, early-to-mid-nineteenth century
