Additional Details

Outstanding journal of a British ship operating in the Eastern Fleet complemented with exceptionally-drawn maps, charts and illustrations of nautical equipment. After departing England the Glory stopped in Gibraltar and Malta before arriving at Port Said for a navigation of the Suez Canal. Further ports included Aden and Ceylon before reaching the Far East. The journal includes descriptions of the ongoing ports interspersed with detailed charts of Hong Kong, Singapore, parts of China, Japan, and Korea. Never far removed from news in England, the crew received word of the death of Queen Victoria during one of their several return calls to Hong Kong on January 23rd, 1901.
