Album containing 50 hand-colored photographs of Japan and its people including a group in a ferry boat, groups of geisha having tea and visiting a garden, a geisha admiring her face in a mirror, a shopkeeper with his store of swords, vases and fans, female musicians, street vendors, workers in the fields, a funeral procession, views of Yokohama, Kamakura, Hakone, Nagoya, Kioto, and Nagasaki. Albumen prints, 7½x9½ inches or the reverse, many titled and numbered in the negative. Oblong folio, black and gilt lacquer covers with bronze inlay, spine worn; with the original padded, cloth presentation box, worn. 1880s
