A collection of letters with excellent content concerning black poets, their poetry and a proposed Poetry Festival. Hughes and Porter were old friends. Dorothy Porter wrote the first bibliography of African-American poetry, North American Negro Poets, 1760-1944.
"The Backlash Blues" was one of the last poems written by Langston Hughes. It was submitted for publication in Halrme's Amsterdam News three weeks before his death on May 22, 1967.
