A letter of exceptional content. Hughes writes to Marshall Best, legendary editor at Viking Press discussing modern Negro poets such as Gwendolyn Brooks, Owen Dodson and Margaret Walker, and the need for an updated anthology that would include their poetry. Best developed the "Portable Library" for Viking, and Hughes suggests that an anthology of Negro poetry would be perfect for that venue. He also highly recommends author-poet Arna Bontemps as the editor.
