Additional Details

The ocean liner SS Kroonland was at that time the largest steamship ever built in the United States. This album and autograph book was compiled by passenger J.M.B. during its inaugural voyage from New York to Antwerp which launched on 28 June 1902. Highlights include an inscription of the ship's commander H. Doxrud, with his photograph laid down; an illustrated inscription by artist Marietta Minnigerode Andrews; and an inscription by the current Secretary of War Elihu Root, who shared the page with Assistant Secretary of the Navy Frank W. Hackett.
